While scrolling through the internet earlier today, I saw someone posted: “Now that the election is over, can we have our naira note”.
It was not long after I saw this tweet, that I chatted with a friend who works in the banking sector. She told me they won’t be opening for clients because they were not supplied with cash.
It did not take too long for me to snap back and realized that we are still amidst the naira scarcity and will continue to buy naira with naira.
To think we are adapting to this policy is scary but what choice do we have?
One can only imagine the number of sales that have been lost by business owners, especially small scale to this process.
One of our community members gave a vivid explanation of how the situation affects her business, she said, “I lack cash to buy the needed ingredients for my product”.
She had to pause production because she produces in small quantities and needs to always get her products and logistics with cash.
This is the extent a single policy can affect a business, either small or big.
This leads me to the just concluded presidential and legislative electoral process, the long-awaited presidential election is over and a winner has emerged.
The election got so many people talking, this should be one of the most competitive elections we’ve seen in recent times.
There were tensions here and there.
Thank God we are still here.
So what next after the election?
Honestly, I don’t know.
However, we can only hope policies made and implemented in the coming administration are more business-friendly.
Every business in this country is affected by policies implemented or the ones disregarded by the government in one form or another.
If these policies are thoughtfully created and implemented, they can facilitate and boost entrepreneurship activities.
The truth is the government can do more for SMEs in this country through its policies.
We cannot emphasize enough the importance of SMEs in a developing nation like ours, we play an important role in creating jobs, creating diverse products and offering multiple services, and generally contributing immensely to the growth and sustenance of the economy.
This is a message of hope to business owners out there, “Don’t stop believing and working hard on your businesses”.
Finally, today is our Co-Founder’s birthday and he is such an amazing man, kindly spare a minute to wish him a happy birthday via our Instagram handle.
